Vacation and 1900 JPA (Summer 2004)
Photos from my visit back to .nl to see Frank & friends, and a few from after moving in to 1900 JPA.

tiestoConcert I am a big DJ Tiesto fan and I found out a few weeks before the trip that the release party was happening at the Heineken music hall in A'dam while I was going to be there. Of course it had sold out in a few hours and tickets were pricey anyway so I abandoned hope of going. When I arrived Frank alluded to viewFromBerlinBalcony1 After a couple days in A'dam we took a car and headed off for 5 days in Berlin and 4 in Prague. This is a shot from our balcony in Schöneberg (Berlin). I am not very good at snapshotting and so the photo selection is pretty slim. Rest assured we did more than the photos say. frankOnBerlinBalcony Frank on the balcony of our flat in Berlin. Staying in a flat instead of a hotel room is definitely the way to go, it is not much more expensive and you can cook your own food which is (a) cozy and (b) cheaper. dresdenFromBridge Shot of Dresden from the car (obviously). dresdenFromBridge2 Another shot of Dresden. HighRes_WF35B807839117504 Dilapidated buildings from the highway to Prague. pragueCityStreet The Bahnhoff in Prague. Prague traffic was sheer madness and it took us probably an hour and a half to get to our flat, even though we started about 4 blocks away, just because of insane construction detours and one way streets. We even went through a parking garage (multiple times) because we got stuck in the wrong lane. pragueFromCastle Looking over Prague from the castle. frankOnPragueBalcony Ivy growing up one of the courtyard walls at the place we stayed. jewishCemetary Shot from the Jewish graveyard in Prague. I must say I had mixed but mostly negative feelings about wandering through a graveyard (esp. taking photos) as a tourist. saltShakerBuilding The stepsToPragueCastle Looking up the steps on the way to the castle. pragueAptElevator The submarine style door for the elevator. The elevator was an open box in a cinderblock shaft, so you could watch the walls move by as the elevator went up. It was your responsibility to not open the door at the wrong time. badEssen We had passed Bad Essen on our way to Berlin and I could not resist having a dinner there (Essen is meal in German, so if you have a juvenile humor you can pretend the city is called bad-food or so). Of course we wanted to have a proper German meat and potatoes meal which turned out to be impossible in the tourist town of Bad Essen. We ended up having an excellent multi-course meal at some hotel on the way back to the highway which had probably 4 or 5 kinds of meat, and plenty of potatoes, so I was satisfied. nlSky The sun going down as we head back through the Netherlands. nlSkyandLake 1900jpaHouseDinner Our first house dinner at 1900 JPA (Laura, Taylor, Hua, and Lisi left to right). We were still waiting on Daniel W. to arrive. faithAtTable Dinner with Faith in the new house. bagels I was so happy to be living in a place with a kitchen again. Nothing like waking up on a Saturday morning and baking fresh bagels for breakfast.
